Ezekiel 1 & 10
Ezekiel's Throne-Chariot on Wheels
The mobile sovereign presence of God departing Jerusalem to dwell among the captive exiles by the river Chebar.
For ancient Israelites, God's presence was assumed to be permanently fixed on Mount Zion. Ezekiel's shocking vision of the Merkabah—the divine throne-chariot resting on burning wheels within wheels—demolished territorial pagan theology.
The Glory Departs and Follows
In Ezekiel 10, the glory cloud reluctantly ascends from the temple threshold, moves east over the Mount of Olives, and joins the broken exiles in Babylon. God proves that He is not captive to human architecture; true sanctuary exists wherever His presence dwells.
